      HE KNEW HIS SUNJECT THROUGHLY, KNEW FAR MORE ABOUT IT THAN HE COULD POSSIBLY USE, BUT HE HAD NOT PLANNED HIS SPEECH. HE HAD NOT SELECTED HIS MATERIAL. HE HAD NOT ARRANGED IT IN ORDERLY FASHION. NEVERTHELESS, WITH A COURAGE BORN OF ENEXPERIENCE, HE PLUNGED HEEDLESSLY, BLINDLY, INTO HIS SPEECH. HE DID NOT KNOW WHERE HE WAS GOING, BUT HE WAS ON HIS WAY.




      HE HAD BEEN TRYING TO TALK IMPROMPTU, BUT IN DESPERATION NOW, HE DREW A BUNDLE OF NOTES OUT OF HIS POCKET, CONFESSING THAT HIS SECRETARY HAD COMPLILED THEM FOR HIM-AND NO ONE QUESTIONED THE VARACITY OF HIS ASSERTION. THE NOTES THEMSELVES EVIDENTLY HAD NO MORE ORDER THAN A VAN FULL OF SCRAP IRON. HE FUMBLED THROUGH THEM NERVOUSLY, GLANCING FROM ONE PAGE TO ANOTHER, TRYING TO ORIENT HIMSELF, TRYING TO FIND A WAY OUT OF THE WILDERNESS, AND HE ATTEMPTED TO TALK AS HE DID SO. IT WAS IMPOSIIBLE. HE APOLOGIZED AND, CALLING FOR WATER, TOOK A DRINK WITH A TREMBLING HAND, UTTERED A FEW MORE SCATTERING SENTENCES, REPEATED HIMSELF, DUG INTO HIS NOTES AGAIN.... 




            MINUTE BY MINUTE HE GREW MORE HELPLESS, MORE LOST, MORE BEWWILDERED, MORE EMBARRASSED. NERVOUS PERSPIRATION STOOD OUT ON HIS FORHEAD, AND HIS HANDKERCHIEF SHOOK AS HE WIPED IT AWAY. IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE AUDIENCES I HAVE EVER BEEN IN, AND HE WAS THE MOST ASHAMED AND HUMILIATED SPEAKER I HAVE EVER SEEN. HE HAD MADE HIS TALK AS ROUSSEAU SAID A LOVE LETTER SHOULD BE WRITTEN: HE HAD BEGUN WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT HE WAS GOING TO SAY, AND HE HAD FINISHED WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT HE HAD UTTERED.

BELIEFS ARE SIMPLY REPEATED THOUGHTS WITH STRONG FEELINGS ATTACHED TO THEM LIKE, I CATCH COLDS EASILY, I HAVE A SENSITIVE STOMACH, I FIND IT HARD TO LOSE WEIGHT, I' M ALLERGIC TO THAT, " COFFEE KEEPS ME AWAKE ", ALL THESE ARE BELIEFS, NOT FACTS. A BELIEF IS WHEN YOU HAVE MADE UP YOUR MIND, THE VERDICT IS IN, YOU'VE NAILED THE DOOR SHUT ANDTHROWN AWAY THE KEY, AND THERE IS NO ROOM FOR NEGOTIATION.           WHAT DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WRITE ON THOSE INDEX CARDS? IN MOST AUDIENCES, REGARDLESS OF PROFESSION OR GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION, THE SAME ANSWERS COME UP AGAIN AND AGAIN. HERE ARE SOME OF THE MOST COMMON FEARS THEY IDENTIFY:


     1. PUBLIC SPEAKING OR GIVING PRESENTATION. IN VIRTUALLY EVERY GROUP, THIS IS THE FEAR. THE VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE TERRIFIED ABOUT SPEAKING IN FRONT OF A GROUP OF PEOPLE.

     2. HEARING THE WORD "NO" OR HAVING THEIR IDEAS REJECTED. THIS RESPONSE IS VERY COMMON AMONG SALESPEOPLE, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO MAKE COLD CALLS.

   4. TELLING MANAGERS OR EXECUTIVE "NEGATIVE NEWS" ( WHAT THE MANAGERS OR EXECUTIVE DON'T WANT TO HEAR) THIS ONE IS SELF-EXPLANATORY.

   5. TALKING TO PEOPLE IN UPPER MANAGEMENT. MANY ENTRY-LEVEL WORKERS AND EVEN MANAGERS ARE TERRIFIED ABOUT SPEAKING TO EXECUTIVES IN THE COMPANY. THEY EVEN HESITATE ABOUT TO MAKE "SMALL TALK" WITH THE PRESIDENT OR CEO OF THEIR ORGANISATION-FOR FEAR THEY'LL SAY SOMETHING SILLY OR APPEAR STUPID.

  6. FEAR OF FAILURE. THOSE WHO WON'T TRY SOMETHING NEW FOR FEAR THAT IT WON'T WORK OUT. ( WE'LL TACKLE THIS ISSUE IN MORE DEPTH IN LESSON )

ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD CANNOT BUY HEALTH, BECAUSE IT IS A GIFT FROM LIFE, AND SO MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, BE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR HEALTH! THE FORCE OF ATTRACTION HOLDS TOGETHER THE CELLS OF YOUR BODY, THE MATERIALS OF YOUR HOUSE, AND THE WATER IN YOUR GLASS. EVERY OBJECT YOU USE IS HELD TOGETHER BY THE FORCE OF ATTRACTION.

                   LET ME ASSURE YOU, HOWEVER, THAT BALDACCI WAS NO OVERNIGHT SUCCESS.                 AFTER 10 YEARS OF WRITING, BALDACCI HAD COMPLETED SOME SHORT STORIES AND A FEW SCREENPLAYS, HIS TOTAL SALES: ZERO ALL THAT HE HAD TO SHOW FOR HIS EFFORTS WERE  A LOT OF REJECTION FROM EDITORS. 

               IN 1996, ALL OF BALDACCI'S EFFORTS PAID OFF...... BIG TIME! HE RECEIVED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THE LITERALLY AND MOVIE RIGHTS TO HIS BLOCBUSTER THRILLER ABSOLUTE POWER. THE START OF THE MOVIE WAS CLINT EASTWOOD. SUCH IS THE POWER OF A PERSON WHO IS COMMITTED.

            THE FORCE OF LOVE HAS NO OPPOSITE. THERE IS NO OTHER POWER IN LIFE BUT LOVE. THERE ISN'T A FORCE OF NEGATIVITY. IN ANCIENT TIMES, NEGATIVITY WAS SOMETIMES DESCRIBED AS 'THE DEVIL' OR 'EVIL'. BEING TEMPTED BY EVIL OR THE DEVIL SIMPLY MEANT BEING TEMPTED TO FALL INTO NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS, RATHER THAN STANDING FIRM IN THE POSITIVE FORCE OF LOVE. THERE IS NO FORCE OF NEGATIVITY. THERE IS ONLY ONE FORCE, AND THAT FORCE IS LOVE.

            ALL THE NEGATIVE THINGS YOU SEE IN THE WORLD ARE ALWAYS, ALWAYS MANIFESTATIONS OF A LACK OF LOVE. WHETHER THAT NEGATIVITY IS IN A PERSON, PLACE, CIRCUMSTANCE, OR EVENT, IT HAS ALWAYS COME FROM A LACK OF LOVE.
