                WHEN I TALK OF CRITICISM, I REFER TO NEGATIVE CRITICISM. WHEN A PERSON IS CRITICIZED, HE BECOMES DEFENSIVE. A CRITIC IS OFTEN LIKE A BACK-SEAT DRIVER WHO DRIVES THE DRIVER MAD. DOES THAT MEAN WE SHOULD NEVER CRITICIZE, NOR CAN WE GIVE POSITIVE CRITICISM?

                       HOW DO YOU CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM? CRITICIZE WITH A SPIRIT OF HELPFULNESS RATHER THAN AS A PUT-DOWN. OFFER SOLUTIONS IN YOUR CRITICISM. CRITICIZE THE BEHAVIOR NOT THE PERSON, BECAUSE WHEN WE CRITICIZE THE PERSON, WE HURT THEIR SELF-ESTEEM. THE RIGHT TO CRITICIZE COMES WITH THE DESIRE TO HELP. AS LONG AS THE ACT OF CRITICIZING DOES NOT GIVE PLEASURE TO THE GIVER, IT IS OKAY. WHEN GIVING CRITICISM BECOMES A PLEASURE, IT IS TIME TO STOP.'

                ❤ CRITICIZE TO PERSUADE, NOT INTIMIDATE.

                ❤ DON'T BE SARCASTIC AS IT BUILDS RESENTMENT.

                ❤ IF CRITICISM IS GIVEN APPROPRIATELY, IT WILL REDUCE THE NEED FOR REPETITION.

                ❤ CRITICIZE IN PRIVATE NOT IN PUBLIC. WHY? BECAUSE IT MAINTAINS GOODWILL WHEREAS PUBLIC CRITICISM CAN BE HUMILIATING.

               ❤ GIVE THE OTHER PERSON AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLAIN HIS SIDE.

               ❤ SHOW THEM HOW THEY WOULD BENEFIT FROM CORRECTING THEIR MISTAKE.

               ❤POINT OUT THE LOSS FROM NOT CORRECTING IT.

              ❤ RATHER THAN TELLING ASK FOR SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT.

               ❤ QUESTION THE ACTION, NOT THE INTENT, IF INTENT IS IN QUESTION, THEN IT IS BETTER TO TERMINATE THE RELATIONSHIP.

              ❤ CRITICIZE THE PERFORMANCE, NOT THE PERFORMER.





                  ❤ DON'T EXPRESS PERSONAL RESENTMENT.

                  ❤ KEEP CRITICISM IN PERSPECTIVE. DON'T OVERDO IT. CRITICISM IS LIKE GIVING MEDICATION. THE MEDICATION SHOULD BE THE RIGHT MIXTURE WITH A PERFECT DOSAGE. TOO MUCH WILL HAVE ADVERSE EFFECTS AND TOO LITTLE WILL BE INEFFECTIVE. GIVEN IN A POSITIVE WAY IN THE RIGHT DOSAGE, IT CAN WORK WONDERS.

                  ❤ WHEN SOMEONE REALIZE AND ADMITS HIS MISTAKE AND APOLOGIZES. LET HIM SAVE FACE.

                SOME PEOPLE ARE CHRONIC COMPLAINERS. IF IT IS HOT, IT IS TOO HOT. IF IT IS COOL, IT IS TOO COLD. EVERY DAY IS A BAD DAY. THEY COMPLAIN EVEN IF EVERYTHING GOES RIGHT. WHY COMPLAIN? BECAUSE 50% OF THE PEOPLE DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE GOT A PROBLEM AND THE OTHER 50%  ARE HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE GOT A PROBLEM. WHAT IS THE POINT OF COMPLAINING? NOTHING COMES OUT OF IT. IT BECOMES A PERSONALITY TRAIT. DOES THAT MEAN WE SHOULD NEVER COMPLAIN OR INVITE COMPLAINTS? NOT AT ALL. JUST LIKE CRITICISM, IF IT IS DONE IS A POSITIVE WAY, COMPLAINTS CAN BE VERY USEFUL. A CONSTRUCTIVE COMPLAINT:

                    WHO REQUESTED YOU YO MEET THE HERE? SCHWAB ASKED.

                   IT WAS MY OWN IDEA, SIR, THE YOUNG MAN REPLIED, AND  I KNEW TELEGRAM THAT STARTED YOU WERE COMING, I BROUGHT MY NOTEBOOK WITH ME, SIR, AND I'LL BE GLAD TO TAKE ANY LETTERS OR TELEGRAMS YOU MAY WISH TO SEND.

                  MR. SCHWAB THANKED THE YOUNG MAN FOR HIS THOUGHTFULLNESS, BUT SAID HE NEEDED TO SERVICE AT THE MOMENT, ALTHOUGH HE MIGHT SEND FOR THE LAD LETTER IN THE DAY. AND HE DID!                   THE YOUNG MAN'S NAME WAS WILLIAMS, WE DO NOT RECALL HIS FIRST NAME, BUT THAT IS UNIMPORTANT, WHAT WE DO RECALL IS THE FACT THAT MR.WILLIAMS PROMOTED HIMSELF FROM ONE JOB TO ANOTHER IN THE STEEL ORGANIZATION UNTIL HE EARNED AND SAVED ENOUGH MONEY TO ENABLE HIM TO GO INTO BUSINESS FOR HIMSELF, AND HE LATER FOUNDED A DRUG COMPANY OF WHICH HE BECAME THE PRESIDENT AND MAJORITY STOCKHOLDER.

                     NOTHING VERY DRAMATIC OR INTERESTING ABOUT THIS BRIEF STORY, IS THERE? WELL, THE ANSWER DEPENDS ALTOGETHER UPON WHAT ONE CALLS DRAMA. TO EVERY MAN WHO IS TRYING TO FIND HIS PLACE IN THE WORLD, THIS STORY, IF ANALYSED CAREFULLY, CARRIES THE DEEPEST SORT OF DRAMA, FOR IT DESCRIBE THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF ONE OF THE MORE IMPORTANT OF THE SEVENTEEN PRINCIPLES OF INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT, THE HABIT OF GOING THE EXTRA MILE!

                      IT WAS THIS HABIT THAT ENABLED HIM TO PROMOTE HIMSELF! IT WAS THIS HABIT THAT ATTRACTED THE ATTENTION THAT HEAD OF A CORPORATION WHERE HE BECAME ALSO HIS OWN BOSS.

                      THE MAJOR ADVANTAGE OF INCENTIVE MOTIVATION IS THAT IT WORKS VERY WELL AS LONG AS THE INCENTIVE IS STRONG ENOUGH. HE APPEARED FOR THE FINAL GAME, WENT TO THE COACH AND SAID, COACH, YOU HAVE ALWAYS KEPT ME IN THE RESERVES AND NEVER LET ME PLAY IN THE GAMES. BUT TODAY, PLEASE, LET ME PLAY.                      PRABHUSHRI SWAMI AMAR JYOTHI WAS BORN ON MAY 6, 1928, IN A SMALL TOWN IN NORTHWESTERN INDIA, NOT  FAR FROM THE BANKS OF THE INDUS  RIVER. MUCH BELOVED BY FAMILY AND TEACHERS. HE SHOCKED EVERYONE WITH THE DECISION TO LEAVE HOME A FEW MONTHS BEFORE COLLEGE GRADUATION, SAYING, I WOULD LIKE TO READ AN OPEN BOOK OF THE WORLD FOR MY EDUCATION, AT THE AGE OF NINETEEN, WITHOUT MONEY FOR MY EDUCATION, AT THE AGE OF NINETEEN, WITHOUT MONEY OR ANY PARTICULAR DESTINATION, HE TOOK THE FIRST HE FOUND, EVENTUALLY ARRIVING IN CALCUTTA, IT WAS 1948, AND THOUSANDS OF REFUSES FROM EAST BENGAL (NOW BANGLADESH) WERE POURING INTO WEST BENGAL EACH DAY. LIVING ON A RAILWAY PLATFORM NEAR THE BORDER OF INDIA AND BANGLADESH, HE SOON HEADED THE ENTIRE VOLUNTEER CORPS THERE, WORKING TIRELESSLY TWENTY HOURS OR MORE EACH DAY. AFTER ABOUT TEN MONTHS, THE FLOOD OF REFUGEES SUBSIDED AND HE RETURNED TO CALCUTTA. THERE A GOVERNMENT OFFICER WHO HAD WITNESSED HIS WORK AT THE BORDER OFFERED WHO HAD WINESSED HIS WORK FOR REHABILITATION OF REFUSES, BUT HE TURNED IT DOWN.

                    HE LIVED IN CALCUTTA  AND LATER ON THE OUTKIRTS OF THE CITY IN A QUIET ASHRAM. IT WAS DURING THIS TIME THAT VISIONS BEGAN AWAKENING IN HIM. HE BEGAN TO MEDITATE, DO YOGA AND ATTEND PUJA (TRADITIONAL WORSHIP) AT A NEARBY TEMPLE OF A WELL-KNOWN SAINT, IN A SHORT WHILE HE KNEW HIS LIFE WORK. AS HE DESCRIBED IT, HE PICKED UP THERE FROM WHERE HE HAD LEFT OFF IN THE LAST BIRTH.

                VERY SOON HE TRAVELLED TO HIMALAYA WHERE HE LIVED PRIMARILY IN SILENCE AND PRACTICED MEDITATION FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS, ONE-POINTED ON THE GOAL OF LIBERERATIO.  MANY PLACES OF PILGRIMAGE WERE VISITED DURING THOSE YEARS, WALKING ON FOOT MILES EACH DAY. BUT A SMALL CAVE AT GANGOTRI, THE TEMPLE VILLAGE NEAR THE SOURCE OF THE GANGA RIVER, WAS THE PLACE OF HIS GREATEST SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES, AWAKENINGS AND , FINALLY ILLUMINATION.

                   IN 1958 HE TIIJ VIDYUT SANNYAS INITIATION AT THE HOLY SITE OF BADRINATH, TAKING THE NAME SWAMI AMAR JYOTHI. LATER HE DECENDED INTO THE PLAINS OF INDIA FOR HIS GOD-GIVEN LEAVING HOME, HIS MOTHER HAD NEVER CEASED SEARCHING FOR HIM AND AWAITNG HIS RETURN. IN ANSWER TO HER PRAYERS, HE SETTLED IN NEARBY PUNE, AND THERE FOUNDED JYOTHI ASHRAM.

                  IN 1961, GURUDEVA ACCEPTED AND OFFER BY DEVOTEE TO VISIT THE UNITED STATES.  AGAIN HE TRAVELLED UNKNOWN, THOUGH SOON ATTRACTING MANY WHO HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A HOLY  MAN. EVENTUALLY HE WAS PERSUADED BY THE SINCERITY OF AMERICAN DISCIPLES TO ESTABLISH SACRED MOUNTAIN ASHRAM IN 1974, FOLLOWED IN 1975 BY DESERT ASHRAM, BOTH WITHIN TRUTH CONSCIOUSNESS, A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT SERVES A VEHICLE FOR GURUDEVA'S WORK IN THE UNITED STATES.

              THE SPIRITUAL AWAKENING ON EARTH THAT GURUDEVA REVEALS IS THE GLORIOUS DESTINY OF MANKIND, ONCE FREED FROM OUR LIMITED IDENTITY OF EGO AND SELF. LOVINGLY AND CEASELESSLY. HE CONTINUES TO UPLIFT AND PURIFY EACH OF US FOR THIS AWAKENING, FOR HIS WAY IS THE ANCIENT RELATIONSHIP OF THE GURU TO THE DISCIPLE, THE CANDLE IT DIRECTLY FROM THE BURNING FLAME OF TRUTH, PRABHUSHRI REMINDS US THAT WE ARE AT A BREAKTHROUGH INTO A NEW AGE WHERE RELIGIOUS WILL BE TRANSFORMED INTO DIRECT AWAKENING AND COMMUNION WITH OUR HIGHEST SOURCE. LIKE A MOTHER WHOSE LOVE KNOWS THE DISCIPLE ON HIS OR HER OWN PATH TO PERFECTION, REVEALING IN HIMSELF THE ATTAINABLE REALITY OF GOD CONSCIOUSNESS.

TWO YEARS LATER, IN MAY 2005, HIS WHITE MARBLE LIFESIZE MURTI (SACRED IMAGE) WAS DEDECATED IN THIS SAME SAMADHI STHAL. GURUDEVA BIOGRAPHY IN  HIS OWN WORDS, IMMORTAL LIGHT.                REMEMBER PEOPLE WHO GOSSIP WITH YOU ALSO GOSSIP ABOUT IN YOUR ABSENCE.

              GOSSIPING AND LYING ARE CLOSELY RELATED. A GOSSIP LISTENS IN HASTE AND REPEATS AT LEISURE. A GOSSIP NEVER MINDS HIS OWN BUSINESS BECAUSE HE HAS NEITHER A MIND NOR A BUSINESS. A GOSSIP IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT HE OVERHEARS THAN WHAT HE HEARS. GOSSIP IS THE ART OF SAYING NOTHING IS A WAY LEAVES NOTHING UNSAID.

                SOMEONE SAID IT WELL, SMALL PEOPLE TALK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE MEDICORE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THINGS, GREAT PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.

                GOSSIP CAN LEAD TO SLANDER AND DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER. PEOPLE WHO LISTEN TO GOSSIP ARE AS GUILTY AS THOSE WHO DO THE GOSSIPING.

              A GOSSIP USUALLY GETS CAUGHT IN HIS OWN MOUTH TRASP. GOSSIP HAS NO RESPECT FOR JUSTICE. IT BREAKS HEARTS, IT RUINS LIVES, IT IS CUNNING AND MALICIOUS. IT VICTIMIZES THE HELPLESS. GOSSIP IS HARD TO TRACK DOWN BECAUSE IT HAS NO FACE OR NAME. IT TARNISHES REPUTATIONS, TOPPLES GOVERNMENTS, WRECKS MARRIAGES, RUINS CARRES, MAKES THE INNOCENT CRY, CAUSE HEARTACHES AND SLEEPNESS NIGHTS. THE NEXT TIME YOU INDULGE IN GOSSIP, ASK YOURSELF.

               MANY PEOPLE CONFUSE COMMITMENT WITH CONFINEMENT. THAT REALLY IS NOT TRUE. COMMITMENT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FREEDOM. IT ACTUALLY GIVES MORE FREEDOM BECAUSE IT PROVIDES A SENSE OF SECURITY.

             THE MOST IMPORTANT COMMITMENT WE EVER MAKE IS TO YOUR VALUES. THAT IS WHY IT IS IMPERATIVE TO HAVE GOOD VALUE SYSTEM. FOR EXAMPLE, IF COMMITTED MYSELF TO SUPPORT MY COMMITMENT ? NOR AT ALL.
