                   THERE ARE A NUMBER OF WORDS IN OUR LANGAUAGE THAT HOLD AN EXALTED STATUS THAT THE WORDS THEMSELVES ARE NOT DUE. AS AN EXAMPLE, THE WORD, "SUCCESS" TOO MANY TIMES HAS BEEN USED TO ONLY MEAN FINANCIAL WEALTH. BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN TOLD TIME AND TIME AGAIN THAT THAT'S WHAT SUCCESS IS, MANY INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR OWN WAY MISTOOK THE FINANCIAL DEFINITION AS THE CORRECT DEFINITION.AS A RESULT, THEY SAW THEMSELVES AS FAILING RATHER THAN SUCCEEDING.


               THE WORD "GOAL" GAS BECOME SO ENCUMBERED WITH PRIORITIES AND DEMANDS THAT IT MAKES EVEN THE THOUGHT OF "SETTING AND REACHING GOALS" SOMETHING OF SUCH GREAT IMPORTANCE THAT WE SEE IT AS A TASK THAT OTHERS, POSSIBLY MORE DEDICATED THAN OURSELVES, MIGHT UNDERTAKE, OR SOMETHING WE SET ASIDE FOR ANOTHER DAY WHEN WE HAVE MORE TIME TO THINK ABOUT IT.


                  SETTING GOALS SHOULD BE SIMPLE. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ASPIRING TO REACH THE HIGHEST MOUNTAINS OF "SUCCESS" BUT WHEN WE SET OUR SIGHTS ON OUR GREAT ASPIRATIONS, WE SHOULD NEVER FAIL TO RECOGNIZE THE LITTLE GOALS THAT GET US THERE - THE GOALS THAT WE SET ALMOST UNCONSCIOUSLY, DAY AFTER DAY, THAT HELP US SURVIVE, ENDURE, OVERCOME, MAINTAIN, AND ACHIEVE EACH DAY, STEP BY STEP . THEY ARE OUR WANTS, OUR NEEDS, OUR SMALLEST EXPECTATIONS OF OURSELVES. THESE ARE SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT GOALS OF ALL, THEY ARE THE GOALS OF EVERYDAY LIVING.


                  YOU MAY HAVE A GOAL AS PRACTICAL AS LOSING A LITTLE EXTRA MORE INCOME, DOING BETTER AT WORK, GETTING A PROMOTIONS, EARNING MORE INCOME, SAVING MORE OF WHAT YOU EARN, GETTING PAST DEPRESSION, GETTING MORE ORGANIZED, WRITING BETTER BUSINESS PLANS, OR CLOSING MORE SALES.



                     YOUR GOALS CAN BE 

                             ANYTHING YOU CHOOSE





                    GOALS CAN BE IMPORTANT AND LIFE-ALTERING, OR AS SIMPLE AS HAVING MORE FREE TIME, ATTENDING CHURCH MORE REGULARLY, RUNNING A BETTER HOUSEHOLD, GETTING GOOD GRADES, HAVING BETTER PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS, BEING HEALTHIER, GOING TO THE SYMPHONY, WRITING A LETTER HOME, SENDING FLOWERS A LITTLE MORE OFTEN, DOING SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR SOMEONE ELSE, LOOKING GOOD FOR THE CLASS REUNION, SMILING MORE OFTEN, CONQUERING YOUR SLICE IN  GOLF, OR CATCHING MORE FISH.


                         YOUR GOALS, THE PROBLEMS STANDING BETWEEN YOU AND THOSE GOALS, CAN BE ANYTHING AT ALL, LARGE OR SMALL. BUT YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND DEALS WITH ALL OF THEM IN THE SAME  MATTER-OF-FACT AND ACCEPTING WAY. IF YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE THEM. GIVE YOURSELF THE RIGHT DIRECTIONS, THE RIGHT WORDS - TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR OWN MIND'S NATURAL DEDICATION TO DO FOR YOU WHAT YOU TELL IT MOST.


                     TO SOLVE ANY PROBLEM OR REACH ANY GOAL, GREAT, OR SMALL, THE INTERNAL MENTAL PROCESS WE GO THROUGH IS THE SAME. IF YOU WANT TO BE BETTER AT YOUR JOB, LOSE WEIGHT, OR CREATE WEALTH IN YOUR LIFE. IT IS ALL THE SAME TO YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND. TO IT ONE DIRECTION IS THE SAME AS ANY OTHER. THE MORE PROGRAMMING IT RECEIVE TO HELP YOU REACH THE OBJECTIVE YOU PRESENT IT WITH, THE MORE IT WILL MOVE IN THAT DIRECTION.

AFTER APPLYING FOR THE JOB, HE CREATED A PRETEND OFFER LETTER FROM THE COMPANY THAT INCLUDED HIS SALARY AND DETAILS OF HIS JOB. HE CREATED A BUSINESS CARD WITH HIS NAME AND THE COMPANY, LOGO. AND HE LOOKE AT THE CARD WITH FEELINGS OF GRATITUDE THAT HE WORKED FOR THE COMPANY. HE WROTE CONGRATULATORY EMAILS TO HIMSELF EVERY FEW DAYS FOR GETTING THE JOB.


                    THIS MAN PROGRESSED THROUGH THE PHONE INTERVIEW, TO FACE-TO-FACE INTERVIEWS WITH TEN PEOPLE. TWO HOURS AFTER HIS INTERVIEWS, THE COMPANY CALLED WITH THE NEWS THAT HE HAD THE JOB. THIS MAN RECEIVED THE JOB HE HAD ALWAYS WANTED WITH A FAR GREATER SALARY THAN HE HAD WRITTEN IN HIS IMAGINARY OFFER LETTER.


                   EVEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IN YOUR LIFE. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GIVE LOVE THROUGH GOOD FEELINGS, AND YOU WILL MAGNETIZE EVERYTHING YOU LOVE TO YOURSELF. YOUR FEELINGS OF LOVE WILL LEAD YOU TO YOUR PURPOSE. YOUR DREAM JOB IS ON THE FREQUENCY OF LOVE AND TO RECEIVE IT, YOU JUST HAVE TO GET YOURSELF THERE.

                    WHEN YOU ARE TALKING WITH A FAMILY MEMBER OR A FRIEND, AND THEY TELL YOU ABOUT SOME NEGATIVE THING THAT SOMEONE SAID OR DID THEY ARE GOSSIPPING AND THEY ARE GIVING OUT NEGATIVITY. AS YOU LISTEN TO THEM, YOU ARE GIVING OUT NEGATIVITY TOO BECAUSE YOU ARE A FEELING BEING, AND YOU CAN'T HEAR NEGATIVE THINGS WITHOUT YOUR FEELING BEING, AND YOU CAN'T HEAR NEGATIVE THINGS WITHOUT YOUR FEELINGS DROPPING RAPIDLY. WHEN YOU TALK WITH A WORK COLLEAGUE AT LUNCH, AND YOU BOTH TALK NEGATIVELY ABOUT SOMEONE, YOU ARE GOSSIPPING AND YOU ARE GIVING OUT NEGATIVITY. YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT OR HEAR NEGATIVITY AND HAVE GOOD FEELINGS!            




                           



                 SO TO PUT IT FRANKLY, WE NEED TO BE MINDFUL OF NOT STICKING OUR NOSE IN OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS, BECAUSE THEIR BUSINESS WILL GET STUCK ON OUR NOSE! UNLESS YOU WANT IT IN YOUR LIFE, TURN AWAY FROM IT WITHOUT FEELING ANYTHING. YOU'LL NOT ONLY BE DOING YOURSELF A FAVOR, BUT YOU'LL ALSO BE DOING THE OTHER PEOPLE A FAVOR WHO DON'T THE NEGATIVE EFFECT GOSSIP CAN HAVE ON THEIR LIVES.

                                CHANGE YOUR HABIT






                           OF THE MANY WAYS YOU CAN USE SELF-TALK ITS VARIOUS FORMS, YOU WILL FIND THAT ALL SELF-TALK SUGGESTIONS OR PHRASES FIT INTO ONE OF FOUR CATEGORIES,  HABIT-CHANGING, ATTITUDE-BUILDING, MOTIVATIONAL OR SITUATIONAL SELF-TALK.


                        MOST OF US HAVE A HABIT OR TWO THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE. IT IS USUALLY SOMETHING WE DO THAT CAUSES US PROBLEMS (OR CAUSES OTHER PEOPLE PROBLEMS) THESE ARE THE HABITS THAT GET IN OUR WAY. HOLD US BACK, OR IN SOME CASES, STOP US COMPLETELY - THEY ARE THE WELL-TRODDEN PATHS THAT, EVEN THOUGH THEY LEAD US IN THE WRONG DIRECTION, WE MOST EASILY FOLLOW.


                   ALL HABITS ARE THE RESULT OF OUR PREVIOUS CONDITIONINGTHINGS WE LEARNED TO DO, AND PRACTICED THEM UNTIL THEY BECAME WHAT SEEMS LIKE A NATURAL WAY TO BEHAVE. THEY ARE NOT NATURAL AT ALL, OF COURSE, WE WEREN'T BORN WITH ANY OF THEM. THEY ARE HABITS - NEGATIVE PROGRAMS THAT STUCK. ANY OF THEM CAN BE REPLACED WITH A NEW PROGRAM.


                 HABIT-CHANGING SELF-TALK HELPS YOU WORK ON A SPECIFIC PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SELF-TALK THAT DIRECTS YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND TO STOP DOING SOMETHING ONE WAY AND STAR DOING IT ANOTHER . IT IS THE SELF-TALK THAT REPLACES A BAHAVIOR PATTERN THAT WORKS AGAINST YOU WITH A BEHAVIOR PATTERN THAT HELPS YOU SOLVE PROBLEMS OR REACH GOALS BY CHANGING YOUR ACTIONS. LET'S LOOK AT A FEW OF THE MORE COMMON HABITS WITH WHICH ALL OF US ARE FAMILIAR.

                       * SAYING "YES" WHEN YOU WANT TO SAY "NO"






                       * NEVER BEING ON TIME

                       * NOT LISTENING

                       * BLAMING OTHERS

                       * INTERRUPTING OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THEY'RE TALKING

                       * BEING DISORGANIZED

                       * NOT TELLING THE TRUTH

                       * WORRYING

                       * BEING A GOSSIP

                       * NOT SETTING PRIORITIES

                       * WORRYING

                       * BEING A GOSSIP

                       * NOT SETTING PRIORITIES

                       * LETTING YOUR EMOTIONS CONTROL YOU

                       * WASTING TIME

                       * GIVING ADVICE THAT ISN'T ASKED FOR

                       * SPENDING MORE MONEY THAN YOU EARN

                       * TALKING TOO MUCH

                        * BEING OVERLY CRITICAL OF OTHERS

                        * NOT TAKING CARE OF DETAILS

                        * STARTING SOMETHING BUT NOT FINISHING IT




                 ALL OF THESE ARE HABITS, AND ALL OF THEM CAN BE CHANGED OR IMPROVED UPON WITH THE RIGHT KIND OF SELF-TALK.


                  WHETHER A HABIT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE IS AS SIMPLE IMPROVED UPON WITH THE RIGHT KIND OF SELF-TALK.


                    WHETHER A HABIT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE IS AS SIMPLE AS INTERUPPTING OTHERS, OR GETTING SOMETHING DONE ON TIME, THERE IS A SPECIFIC KIND OF SELF-TALK THAT WILL HELP YOU DO JUST THAT. HABIT CHANGING SELF-TALK IS SPECIFIC AND DEMANDING. IT REFUSES TO TOLERATE OR ACCEPT THE OLD HABIT WHILE IT CREATES A NEW PICTURE OF YOU ACTING AND BAHAVING IN A WAY THAT PLUS THE OLD HABIT BEHIND YOU, IT PUTS YOU INTO MOTION WITH A PRODUCTIVE NEW HABIT PATTERN THAT REPLACES THE OLD.

                    IN MY BOOK MAXIMUM ACHIEVEMENT, I TEACH THE IMPORTANCE OF THE LAW OF CONTROL, WHICH STATES, "YOU FEEL HAPPY TO THE DEGREE TO WHICH YOU FEEL YOU ARE IN CONTROL  OF YOUR OWN LIFE. YOU FEEL UNHAPPY TO THE DEGREE TO WHICH YOU FEEL YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL, OR CONTROLEED BY OTHER FACTORS OR PEOPLE".


                    PSYCHOLOGISTS CALL THIS YOUR "LOCAL OF CONTROL". THERE ARE FIFTY YEARS OF RESEARCH AND HUNDREDS OF BOOKS AND ARTICLES ON THIS SUBJECT. THEY ALL CONCLUDE THAT STRESS AND UNHAPPINESS ARISE WHEN  YOU FEEL CONTROLLED BY OUTSIDE CIRCUMSTANCE. THIS IS EXPLAINED AS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN "INTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL" (HAPPY) AND AN "EXTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL" (UNHAPPY)


                  YOU HAVE AN INTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL WHEN YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE IN CHARGE, YOU MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS, AND WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU IN LIFE IS LARGELY DETERMINED BY YOURSELF. WHEN YOU HAVE AN INTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL, YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE BEHIND THE WHEEL OF YOUR OWN LIFE AND THAT YOU ARE IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. YOU FEEL THAT YOU DETERMINE MOST OF WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU. AS A RESULT, YOU FEEL STRONG, PURPOSEFUL, AND HAPPY.


             ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU HAVE IN EXTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL TO THE DEGREE TO WHICH YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL OR THAT YOU HAVE LITTLE ABILITY TO DIRECT YOUR OWN LIFE, FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE CONTROLLED BY AN ARBITRARY OR CRITICAL BOSS, BUT YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE JOB BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO SAVINGS PUT ASIDE, YOU EXPERIENCE HIGH LEVELS OF STRESS AND ANXIETY. THIS CAUSES YOU TO DO A POOR JOB, WHICH MAKES IT EVEN MORE LIKELY THAT YOUR DIFFICULT THE CIRCUMSTANCES YOU FEAR.


                    ANOTHER EXAMPLE IS THAT YOU MAY FEEL YOU ARE CONTROLLED BY A BAD MARRIAGE OR RELATIONSHIP FROM WHICH YOU CANNOT ESCAPE. YOU MAY FEEL CONTROLLED BY YOUR BILLS, BY THE MONEY YOU OWE, AND YOUR OBLIGATIONS TO MAINTAIN YOUR STANDARD OF LIVING. YOU MAY FEEL THAT YOU ARE CONTROLLED BY YOUR PHYSICAL CONDITION OR LACK OF EDUCATION. MANY PEOPLE FEEL THAT THEY ARE CONTROLLED BY THEIR PAST BECAUSE OF A DIFFICULT CHILDHOOD OR UPBRINGING AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO CHANGE THEIR SITUATION.





                     MANY PEOPLE FEEL THAT THEY ARE CONTROLLED BY THEIR OWN PERSONALITIES AND THAT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER. THEY SAY, "THAT'S JUST THE WAY I AM. "BY SAYING THIS, THEY ABSOLVE THEMSELVES OF ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR EXERTING THE NECESSARY DISCIPLINE AND WILLPOWER TO MAKE THE CHANGES THEY KNOW THEY NEED TO MAKE IN ORDER TO LIVE THE KIND OF LIFE THEY WANT TO LIVE AND TO BE HAPPY.


                    THE KEY TO REPLACING AN EXTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL WITH AN INTERNAL LOCUS OF CONTROL IS FOR YOU TO DECIDE TODAY TO TAKE COMPLETE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE. REALIZE AND ACCEPT THAT YOU MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS AND THAT YOU ARE WHERE YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE BECAUSE OF YOURSELF. IF THERE IS SOME AREA IN YOUR LIFE IN WHICH YOU ARE NOT HAPPY, DISCIPLINE YOURSELF TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO CHANGE THE SITUATION.



                                 PERFORM AT YOUR BEST






                 WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG, THE NATURAL TENDENCY OF MOST PEOPLE IS TO BECOME ANGRY AND LOOK AROUND FOR SOMEONE TO BLAME. BUT THIS IS A WASTE OF ENERGY. IT SOLVES NOTHING. INSTEAD, YOU MUST DISCIPLINE YOURSELF TO REMAIN CALM, OBJECTIVE, AND UNEMOTIONAL.


         WHEN YOU FACE AN UNEXPECTED PROBLEM OR CRITIS, DISCIPLINE YOURSELF TO STAY CALM, TO FOCUS ON THE SOLUTION RATHER THAN THE PROBLEM. THINK IN TERMS OF WHAT CAN BE DONE NOW, RATHER THAN THINKING ABOUT HOW IT OCCURED AND WHO IS TO BLAME.


                   LIKE AN ACCIDENT WHERE SOMEONE IS HURT, YOU FOCUS ON CARING FOR THE INJURED PERSON, STOPPING THE BLEEDING, AND MINIMIZING THE DAMAGE BEFORE YOU START ANALYZING WHAT AND HOW IT HAPPENED, PRACTICE SELF-DISCIPLINE WHEN DEALING WITH A PROBLEM OR CRISIS BY IMMEDIATELY SAYING, "I AM RESPONSIBLE", EVEN IF, AT THAT MOMENT, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE ONLY FOR CONTROLLING YOUR RESPONSES.
