                      THE SEER (THE CONSCIOUS SELF) AND THE WORLD SEEN THROUGH THE SENSES WHEN NOT DISTINGUISHED, GIVES RISE TO THE FEELINGS OF THE WRONG I AM-NESS OR EGO.


                   SUTRA 7 


                       SUKHA-ANUSAYI RAGAH







                  TO BE ATTRACTED IS TO CLING TO THE PLEASURABLE.


                    EVEN WHEN ONE IS OFTEN TIMES AWARE THAT THE PLEASURE IS FLEETING- AND IN THE END IS THE CAUSE FOR SORROW.


                      THE NEXT SUTRA LOOKS AT THE OTHER SIDE.


                  SUTRA 8 


                       DUHKHA-ANUSAYI DVESAH


                         AVERSION IS CLINGING TO SORROW.







                    THIS MEANS MOSTLY EXPERIENCING SORROW. THE MIND DEVELOPS THE HABIT OF ENJOYING THE FAMILIEAR PATTERN AND DEVELOPS AVERSION TO NO-SORROW, LIKE THE PIG THAT WALLOWS IN THE MUCK OF ITS STY DISLIKES CLEANLINESS. IN EXTREME CASES, LIKE THAT OF THE VOLUNTARY MARTYR, THE MIND IMAGINES EVEN THE PAIN OF DYING TO BE MORE PLEASURABLE THAN THE STATE OF LIVING.



                  SUTRA 9 


                       SVARAS VAHI VIDUSO-PI-TATHA RUDHO-BHINIVESAH



                           THE DESIRE FOR CONTINUITY WHICH EVEN THE WISE HAVE IS A BUILT-IN INSTINCT FOR SURVIVAL AND PLEASURE-SEEKING.


                         FROM THE CORONAVIRUS TO THE COMPLEX DEVELOPED HUMAN BEING, THE DESIRE TO NOT DIE BUT TO CONTINUE AND MULTIPLY IS INSTINCTUAL. IT IS LINKED TO THE IGNORANCE THAT PHYSICAL LIFE IS ETERNAL.







                         THE WILL LAST UNTIL THE CONSCIOUS-AWARENESS IS REALISED TO BE THE REAL SELF AND NOT THE BODY OR THE OUTSIDE WORLD, IN WHICH IT APPEARS ALMOST INEXTRICABLY ENMESHED.


                   SUTRA 10 


                      TE PRATIPRASAVA-HEYAH SUKSMAH


                   THESE SUBTLE HANKERINGS ARE TO BE AVOIDED BY TRACING BACK TO THE ORIGIN.


                   THIS MEANS THAT FROM THE MULTIPLICITY OF THE WORLD, ONE HAS TO TRACE ONE'S AWARENESS TO THE UNITY OF THE PURE CONSCIOUS SELF.

                      DHYANA HEYAH TAD-VRTTAYAH


                     ALL THESE DISTRACTIONS AND FLUNTUATIONS CAN BE AVOIDED THROUGH DHYANA (MEDITATION).

                       KLESA-MULAH KARMA -ASAYO DRSTA-ADRSTA-JANMA-

                       VEDANIYAH






                       THE WHOLE OF EXISTENCE, SEEN OR UNSEEN, IS BECAUSE THE ROOTS OF AFFLICTION ARE THE RESIDUE TO KARMA- ACTION FROM THE PAST.



                       SUTRA 13 


                    SATI MULE TAD-VIPAKO JATY-AYUR-BHOGAH


                      AS LONG AS THE ROOT EXISTS, IT BEARS FRUIT BEING BORN IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS, AS LIVING AND EXPERIENCE GENERATED IN LIFE.



                        SUTRA 14 


                      TE HLADA PARITAPA-PHALAH PUNYA-APUNYA-HETUTVAT


                THESE FRUITS ARE JOYFUL OR PAINFUL, DEPENDING ON THE CAUSES, MERITORIOUS OR DEMERITORIUS.


                     SUTRA 15 


                          PARINAMA TAPA SAMSKARA DUHKHAIH GUNA-VRTTI-

                          VIRODHACCA DUHKHAM-EVA SARVAM VIVEKINAH








                       TO THE ONE WHO CAN DISCRIMINATE, THE CONFLICTS, THE EXPECTATION AND THE REMITTENT SORROW, THE OPPOSITE OF PLEASURE AND PAIN, THE ANXIETY AND THE CONFLICT ASSOCIATED WITH THEM ARE ALL SUMMED UP BY ONE WORD- FLUCTUATIONS OF THE MIND-STUFF, VRITTIS.



                      SUTRA 16 


                      HEYAM DUHKHAM-ANAGATAM


                   (SUCH A ONE) AVOIDS THE DISSATISFACTION YET TO COME.



                          SUTRA 17 


                             DRASTR-DRSYAYOH SAMYOGO HEYAHETUH


                     ALL THIS CAN BE AVOIDED, IF ONE KNOWS THAT THE CAUSES OF ALL THESE AFFLICTIONS IS THE ILLUSION THAT THE SEER AND THE SEEN ARE ONE.

                    AT THIS POINT, IT IS RELEVANT TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FACT THAT TILL SUTRA 28, THE PRACTICE POPULARLY CALLED ASHTANGA YOGA OR THE YOGA OF EIGHT LIMBS IS NOT MENTIONED. IT IS ONLY FROM SUTRA 29 THAT THE PRACTICE OF ASHTANGA BEGINS. UNTIL THEN, THE TEACHING CENTRES AROUND UNDERSTANDING THE ROOT CAUSE OF AFFLICTIONS, SO THAT THEY MAY BE DEALT WITH.

                          THIS SUTRA DESCRIBES THE AFFLICTIONS THAT HAMPER THE TRANQUILITY OF MIND NEEDED TO TOUCH THE FREEDOM OF PURE CONSCIOUSNESS.


                        IGNORANCE, I-AM-NESS (EGO), ATTRACTION, AVERSION AND DESIRE FOR CONTINUITY - THE DESIRE TO LIVE FOREVER.


                      NOW THESE NEED TO BE STUDIED CAREFULLY, THE BRAHMA SUTRAS, UPANISHADS AND THE GITA, TOGETHER CALLED THE PRASTANA TRAYA, OFFER A GREAT DEAL IN THIS DIRECTION.


                       THE NEXT SUTRAS THAT FOLLOW TAKE UP EACH OF THESE WORDS AND EXPLAIN THEIR MEANING,







                          SUTRA 4


                   AVIDYA KSETRAM-UTTARESAM PRASUPTA-TANU-VICCHINNI-

                    UDARANAM AVIDYA



                           IGNORANCE IS THE ORIGIN OF FIELD OF ALL OTHER AFFLICTIONS, EITHER DORMANT OR INACTIVE, DIMISHED (DUE TO VARIOUS REASONS), OVERPOWERED BY OTHER CAUSES OR FULLY AROUSED.



                           THE NEXT SUTRAS ATTEMPT TO DEFINE THE WORD "IGNORANCE".







                SUTRA 5


                   ANITYA-ASUCI-DUHKHA-ANATMASU NITYA-SUCI-

                   SUKHA-ATMA- KHYATIR-AVIDYA



                      IGNORANCE IS SEEING THE NON-ETERNAL AS ETERNAL, THE NOT PURE AS PURE, SORROW PRODUCING FACTORS AS PLEASURABLE, AND THE NON-SELF AS SELF.






                           AS VEDANTA DECLARES, THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT ONE CONSIDERS THE UNREAL, PHENOMENAL WORLD PERCEIVED BY THE SENSE ORGANS AS REAL AS OPPOSED TO THE REAL SELF, WHICH CANNOT BE RECOGNISED BY THEM. THE FAMOUS "ASSERTATION" OFTEN CONSIDERED A PRAYER, ASATOMA SADGAMAYA 'FROM THE UNREAL MAY I ASCEND TO THE REAL SUMS UP THIS IDEA.



                      WHAT THE VEDANTINS SAY IS WHAT SCIENTISTS, PARTICULARLY NEUROLOGISTS, HAVE BEGUN TO SAY TODAY, THAT WHAT WE PERCEIVE AND FEEL AS THE REAL WORLD, IS MERELY THE IMAGE OF THE WORLD PERCEIVED THROUGH OUR SENSE ORGANS WHICH THEMSELVES ARE INACCURATE INSTRUMENTS OF PERCEPTION, AND BASED ON WHICH, THE MIND CONSTRUTS IMAGES AND PRESENTS TO US AS "REAL".



                       DIFFERENT SETS OF SENSE ORGANS OR INSTRUMENTS OF PERCEPTION, LIKE THE COMPOUND EYE OF THE COMMON HOUSEFLY, CAN PROJECT AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT IMAGE OF THE SAME WORLD. THE QUESTION THAT ARISES IS, THEREFORE, WHAT IS THE REALITY OF EVEN THIS WORLD WE EXPERIENCE AND LIVE IN, EXCEPT WHAT THE MIND PROJECTS, WHICH IN ITSELF IS BASED ON THE ERRONEOUS DATA PROVIDED BY THE UNSTRUMENTS OF PERCEPTION. TO QUOTE THE POET ALEXANDER POPE, THE DIFFERENCE IS AS GREAT BETWEEN THE OPTICS SEEING, AS THE OBJECTS SEEN.




THE EARTH WEIGHT IN SOLAR SYSTEM

 




                                 HAVE YOU KNOW THE 

                                    DENSITY OF EARTH

                            ACCORDING TO THIS LAW OUR WORLD MUST MEET ITS DOOMSDAY AT THE END OF ITS TERM, AS A PART OF THE CONTINUOUS DIVINE ACTIVITY OF CREATION, RECREATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY. IT IS A COMFORT THAT WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE TO HAVE IT IN THIS EXTREMELY VAST UNIVERSE. ALLAH HAS CALLED HIMSELF THE LORD OF THE WORLDS, AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS WORLDS LIKE OURS IN THE UNIVERSE. ALL THESE HAVE THEIR DOOMSDAYS ON THIER RESPECTIVE TERMS. THERE HAVE BEEN WORLDS WHICH HAVE ALREADY PASSED THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE, AND THERE ARE MANY WORLDS WHICH ARE PASSING THROUGH IT NOW, AND THERE REMAIN MANY WORLDS WHICH WILL MEET A SIMILAR FATE IN FUTURE.



                          THIS IS A REALITY WHICH CONTINUALLY MANIFESTS ITSELF IN NATURE. WHEN IT HAPPENS ON OUR EARTH IT WILL NOT BE AT ALL A UNIQUE OR AN ISOLATED HAPPENING IN THE UNIVERSE. BUT SIMPLY A PART OF THE GRAND DIVINE SCHEME OF ACCOUNTABILITY. HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT THE DETACHED EVENTS FROM EACH OTHER, BECAUSE ULTIMATELY ALL OF THEM WILL CULMINATE INTO THE OVERALL DOOMSDAY. THEY ARE LIKE THE SUB-SETS OF THE SUPER-SET OF THE OVERALL DOOMSDAY, WHICH WILL BE THE FINAL BLOW TO END THE PRESENT ORDER OF EXISTENCE TOTALLY AND WHOLLY. AS THE QURAN SAYS, EVERY EVENT HAS ITS APPOINTED TIME . IN THIS PROCESS OUR SMALL EARTHLY WORLD WILL SOME DAY BE ALSO DESTROYED UNNOTICED IN THE UNIVERSE. THE WARMING OF THIS PENDING FATE IS CLEARLY GIVEN IN THE HOLY QURAN BY THE FOLLOWING VERSE OF SURAT AR-RAHMAN.

                         WHOSOEVER IS IN THE HEAVENS AND EARTH

                                   ASK HIM (FOR FAVOURS)

                         (AND) EACH DAY HE MANIFEST HIMSELF

                                  IN NEW SPLENDOUR,

                          WHICH, THEN OF YOUR SUSTAINER'S FAVOUR

                                     CAN YOU DENY?

                           SOON WE SHALL BE FREE TO TAKE

                                       YOU TO TASK ALSO,

                            O! YOU TWIN BURDENS (OF THE EARTH)

                               THE FIRST PART OF THIS REVELATION "OF HIM SEEK FAVOURS ALL CREATURES IN THE HEAVENS AND EARTH, CLEARLY SPEAKS OF OTHER BEINGS IN THE COSMOS WHO LIKE US ALSO BESEECH THEIR CREATOR AND SUSTAINER FOR THEIR NEEDS. THE NEXT PART OF THE SAME REVELATION INFORMS THAT THE UNIVERSE IS NOT A STEADY-STATE SYSTEM BUT A HIGHLY DYNAMIC ORGANISM WHERE EACH DAY APPEARS WITH NEW SPLENDOUR. THE NEXT VERSE CONVEYS THE IDEA THAT THIS PROCESS OF CREATION AND RECREATION IS INFACT A GREAT FAVOUR TO  THE LIVING BEINGS IN THE COSMOS, BECAUSE IN IT LIES THIER OWN ETERNAL GOOD.

                          THE EARTH HAS A CORE POSSIBLY OF IRON, HIGHLY COMPRESSED TO A DENSITY OF 10 TO 12 TIMES THAT OF WATER, EXTENDING TO ABOUT HALF ITS RADIUS. THEN THERE IS A LAVA IN AN AVERAGE DENSITY OF 5.5 WHICH IS OVER 1000 MULES THICK OVERLAID WITH A ROCKY COVER, PERHAPS 700 MILES IN THICKNESS AND DENSITY ABOUT 4.3 .                            ALLAH CREATED THE PEN AND SAID TO IT,

                     WRITE, THE PEN SAID,

                              WHAT SHOULD I WRITE? ALLAH TOLD IT

                       TO WRITE ALL THAT WAS DECREED BY HIM

                                TO HAPPEN TILL THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT

                        HENCE EVERY ACCOUNT IS PRESERVED IN THE 

                                BOOK OF THE UNIVERSE, FOR EVER,".

                                  THE MEDITATION

                 CONSIDER HOW QUICKLY ALL THINGS ARE DISSOLVED AND RESOLVED. THE BODIES AND SUBSTANCES THEMSELVES, INTO THE MATTER AND SUBSTANCE OF THE WORLD, AND THEIR MEMORIES INTO THE GENERAL AGE AND TIME OF THE WORLD. CONSIDER THE NATURE OF ALL WORDLY SENSIBLE THINGS, OF THOSE ESPECIALLY, WHICH EITHER ENSNARE BY PLEASURE, OR FOR THEIR IRKSOMENESS ARE DREADFUL, OR FOR THEIR OUTWARD LUSTRE AND SHOW ARE IN GREAT ESTEEM AND REQUEST, HOW VILE AND COMTEMPTIBLE, HOW BASE AND CORRUPTIBLE, HOW DESTITUTE OF ALL TRUE LIFE AND BEING THEY ARE.


 

                  IT IS THE PART OF A MAN ENDOWED WITH A GOOD UNDERSTANDING FACULTY, TO CONSIDER WHAT THEY THEMSELVES ARE IN VERY DEED, FROM WHOSE BARE CONCEITS AND  VOICES, HONOUR AND CREDIT TO PROCEED. AS ALSO WHAT IT IS TO DIE, AND HOW IF A MAN SHALL CONSIDER THIS BY ITSELF ALONE, TO DIE, AND SEPARATE FROM IT IN HIS MIND ALL THOSE THING WHICH WITH IT USUALLY REPRESENT THEMSELVES UNTO US, HE CAN CONCEIVE OF IT NO OTHERWISE, THAN  AS OF A WORK OF NATURE, AND HE THAT FEARS ANY WORK OF NATURE, IS A VERY CHILD. NOW DEATH, IT IS NOT ONLY A WORK O NATURE, BUT ALSO CONDUCING TO NATURE.

                     CONSIDER WITH THYSELF HOW MAN, AND BY WHAT PART OF US, IS JOINED UNTO GOD, AND HOW THAT PART OF MAN IS AFFECTED, WHEN IT IS SAID TO BE DIFFUSED. THERE IS NOTHING MORE WRETCHED THAN THAT SOUL, WHICH IN A KIND OF CIRCUIT COMPASSETH ALL THINGS, SEARCHING (AS HE SAITH) EVEN THE VERY DEPTHS OF THE EARTH, AND BY ALL SIGNS AND CONJECTURES PRYING INTO THE VERY THOUGHTS OF OTHER MEN'S SOULS, AND YET OF THIS, IS NOT SENSIBLE, THAT IT IS SUFFICIENT FOR A MAN TO APPLY HIMSELF WHOLLY, AND TO CONFINE ALL HIS THOUGHTS AND CARES TO THE TENDANCE OF THAT SPIRIT WHICH IS WITHIN HIM, AND TRULY AND REALLY TO SERVE HIM. HIS SERVICE DOTH CONSISTS IS THIS, THAT A MAN KEEP HIMSELF PURE FROM ALL VIOLENT PASSION AND EVIL AFFECTION, FROM ALL RASHNESS AND VANITY, AND FROM ALL MANNER OF DISCONTENT, EITHER IN REGARD OF THE GODS OR MEN. FOR INDEED WHATSOEVER PROCEEDS FROM THE GODS, DESERVES RESPECT FOR THEIR WORTH AND EXCELLENCY, AND WHATSOEVER PROCEEDS FROM MEN, AS THEY ARE OUR KINSMEN, SHOULD BY US BE ENTERTAINED, WITH LOVE, ALWAYS, SOMETIMES, AS PROCEEDING FROM THEIR IGNORANCE, OF THAT WHICH 


                WHAT OBJECT SO EVER,  OUR REASONABLE AND SOCIABLE FACULTY DOTH MEET WITH, THAT AFFORDS NOTHING EITHER FOR THE SATISFACTION OF REASON, OR FOR THE PRACTICE OF CHARITY, SHE WORTHILY DOTH THINK UNWORTHY OF HERSELF.

                      WHEN THOU HAST DONE WELL, AND ANOTHER IS BENEFITED BY THY ACTION, MUST THOU LIKE A VERY FOOL LOOK FOR A THIRD THING BESIDES, AS THAT IT MAY APPEAR UNTO OTHERS ALSO THAT THOU HAST DONE WELL, OR THAT THOU MAYEST IN TIME, RECEIVE ONE GOOD TURN FOR ANOTHER? NO MAN USETH TO BE WEARY OF THAT WHICH IS BENEFICIAL UNTO HIM. BUT EVERY ACTION ACCORDING TO NATURE, IS BENEFICIAL, BE NOT WEARY THEN OF DOING THAT WHICH IS BENEFICIAL UNTO THEE, WHILST IT IS SO UNTO OTHERS.



                       THE NATURE OF THE UNIVERSE DID ONCE CERTAINLY BEFORE IT WAS CREATED, WHATSOEVER IT HATH DONE SINCE, DELIBERATE AND SO RESOLVE UPON THE CREATION OF THE WORLD. NOW SINCE THAT TIME, WHATSOEVER IT IS, THAT IS AND HAPPENS IN THE WORLD, IS EITHER BUT A CONSEQUENT OF THAT ONE AND FIRST DELIBERATION, OR IF SO BE THAT THIS RULING RATIONAL PART OF THE WORLD, TAKES ANY THOUGHT AND CARE OF THINGS PARTICULAR, THEY ARE SURELY HIS REASONABLE AND PRINCIPLE CREATURES, THAT ARE THE PROPER OBJECT OF HIS PARTICULAR CARE AND PROVIDENCE. THIS OFTEN THOUGHT UPON, WILL MUCH CONDUCE TO THY TRANQUILITY.

                           THIS ALSO, AMONG OTHER THINGS, MAY SERVE TO KEEP THEE FROM VAINGLORY, IF THOU SHALT CONSIDER, THAT THOU ART NOW ALTOGETHER INCAPABLE OF THE COMMENDATION OF ONE, WHO ALL HIS LIFE LONG, OR FROM HIS YOUTH AT LEAST, HATH LIVED A PHILOSOPHERS LIFE. FOR BOTH UNTO OTHERS, AND TO THYSELF ESPECIALLY, IT IS WELL KNOWN, THAT THOU HAST DONE MANY THINGS CONTRARY TO THAT PERFECTION OF LIFE. THOU HAST THEREFORE BEEN CONFOUNDED IN THY COURSE, AND HENCEFORTH IT WILL BE HARD FOR THEE TO RECOVER THE TITLE AND CREDIT OF A PHILOSOPHER. AND TO IT ALSO IS THY CALLING AND PROFESSION REPUGNANT. IF THEREFORE THOU DOST TRULY UNDERSTAND. WHAT IT IS THAT IS OF MOMENT INDEED, AS FOR THY FAME AND CREDIT, TAKE NO THOUGHT OR CARE FOR THAT. LET IT SUFFICE THEE IF ALL THE REST OF THY LIFE, BE IT MORE OR LESS, THOU SHALT LIVE AS THY NATURE REQUIRETH, OR ACCORDING TO THE TRUE AND NATURAL END OF THY MAKING. TAKE PAINS THEREFORE TO KNOW WHAT IT IS THAT THY NATURE REQUIRETH, AND LET NOTHING ELSE DISTRACT THEE.


                     UPON EVERY ACTION THAT THOU ART ABOUT, PUT THIS QUESTION TO THYSELF (MYSELF), HOW WILL THIS WHEN IT IS DONE AGREE WITH ME? SHALL I HAVE NO OCCASION TO REPENT OF IT? YET A VERY LITTLE WHILE AND I AM DEAD AND GONE, AND ALL THINGS ARE AT END. WHAT THEN DO I CARE FOR MORE THAN THIS, THAT MY PRESENT ACTION WHATSOEVER IT BE, MAY BE THE PROPER ACTION OF ONE THAT IS REASONABLE, WHOSE END IS, THE COMMON GOOD, WHO IN ALL THINGS IS RULED AND GOVERNED BY THE SAZME LAW OF RIGHT AND REASON, BY WHICH GOD HIMSELF IS.







                            THOU HAS NO TIME NOR OPPORTUNITY TO READ. WHAT THEN?                      KUNDALINI IN SANSKRIT MEANS 'COILED' LIKE A SNAKE. IT IS A DORMANT SPIRITUAL ENERGY THAT LIES AT THE BASE OF SPINE IN EVERY HUMAN BEING.                      THERE ARE SEVERAL NADIS IN THE BODY. THEY ARE CHANNELS THROUGH WHICH THE PSYCHIC ENERGY FLOW. THEY CAN'T BE SEEN AND THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC REASON OF THEIR EXISTENCE. THEY ARE NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH NERVES, VEINS AND ARTERIES DISTRIBUTED OVER THE HUMAN BODY. THERE ARE THREE IMPORTANT NADIS I.E. SUSHUMNA, PINGALA AND IDA.  SUSUMNA RUNS IN THE SPINE OR ALONG THE SPINE THROUGH SEVEN CHAKRAS - MULADHARA AT BASE AND SAHASRARA AT THE CROWN OF THE HEAD. PINGALA ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF SPINE HAS SUN LIKE NATURE WHEREAS IDA RUNS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF SPINE AND HAS MOON LIKE NATURE. THE KUNDALINI AWAKENING CAN BE GRADUAL OR ABRUPT, VARYING IN INTENSITY DEPENDING UPON PHYSICAL COMPOSITION AND NATURE OF DIFFERENT PERSONS. ITS AWAKENING LEADS TO PSYCHO-SPIRITUAL GROWTH. IT INCREASES KNOWLEDGE AND EFFECTS CONSCIOUSNESS.

                       KUNDALINI SHOULD BE AWAKENED BY A GURU WHO CAN FULLY CONTROL THE RISING ENERGY OTHERWISE IT MAY LEAD TO MANY PSYCHO PROBLEMS IN THE ASPIRANT.                     * SWADHISHTHANA - IT IS SACRAL CHAKTRA. IT IS REPRESENTED BY SIX PETALS OF LOTUS FLOWER.


                   * ANAHATA - IT IS HEART CHAKRA. IT IS LOCATED SPINE IN HEART REGION. IT REPRESENTS A LOTUS WITH TWELVE PETALS.


                 * VISHUDDHA - IT IS THROAT CHAKRA. IT IS LOCATED AT THE BASE OF NECK. IT IS REPRESENTED BY SIXTEEN PETALS LOTUS.


                   * AJNA - IT IS THIRD EYE CHAKRA. IT IS LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF EYEBROWS JUST ABOVE THE NOSE. IT IS REPRESENTED BY TWO PETALS OF LOTUS. IT IS A POINT WHERE DUALITY DIMINISHES. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIGHT OR DARK, MALE OR FEMALE.


                * SAHASRARA - IT IS THE SEVENTH CHAKRA AND ALSO KNOWN AS CROWN CHAKRA. IT IS LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE HEAD. IT APPEARS LIKE THOUSAND PETAL LOTUS.



                        THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PETALS IN THE SIX CHAKRAS FROM MULADHAR TO AJNA CHAKRA IS FIFTY, WHICH CORRESPONDS TO THE NUMBER OF LETTERS IN SANSKRIT ALPHABET. WHEN ALL PETALS OF LOTUS COMBINED TOGETHER THEY FORM ALL THE ALPHABETS OF SANSKRIT LANGUAGE.

WHAT IS KARMA ?

 



                                  

                                       KARMA YOGA







                  KARMA IS A SANSKRIT WORD MEANING ACTION OR TO WORK. EATING, SLEEPING, WALKING, THINKING AND READING ARE ACTIONS. BAL GANGADHAR TILAK IN GITA RAHASYA SAYS, "NO MAN IS FREE FROM ACTION AND THAT ACTION SHOULD NEVER BE GIVEN UP". EVERY ACTION IS SPIRITUAL, IF IT IS DONE WITHOUT ANY SELFISHNESS IN DOING A TASK THEN IT IS ONLY "ACTION" AND NOT "KARMA YOGA".


                  UNSELFISH ACTIONS CLEAN THE MIND. ACCORDING TO PARAMAHAMSA HARIHARANANDA, "KARMA YOGA MEANS THE PRACTICE OF DETACHMENT IN ALL ACTIONS. UNSELFISHNESS PRODUCES DETACHMENT AND INDIFFERENCE TO THE RESULT OF ACTIONS". WHEN ONE DOES ALL THE KARMAS ASSIGNED TO ONESELF WITHOUT ANYTHING IN RETURN LIKE NAME, FAME, SATISFACTION OR MONETARY GAINS THEN ONE BECOMES KARMA YOGI.  A KARMA YOGI DOES ONE'S DUTY PROPERLY, ACCEPTS DESTINY AND DOES SELFLESS SOCIAL SERVICE IGNORING PERSONAL DESIRES. DOING ONE'S ALL DUTIES WHILE REMAINING IN THIS MATERIALITIC WORLD AND WITHOUT ANY EXPECTATIONS, LEADS TO LIBERATION THROUGH KARMA YOGA. ONE CAN PRACTISE KARMA YOGA WITHOUT TAKING SANNYAS (LEAVING HOUSE TO LIVE A LIFE OF HERMIT).







                        KARMA YOGA CAN BE PRACTISED BY DETACHING ONESELF WITH THE FRUITS OF ACTIONS. IF THE RESULT IS NOT UPTO ONE'S EXPECTATION THEN ONE SHOULD NOT GET ANGRY, IRRITATED OR UNHAPPY. ONE SHOULD ACT ACCORDING TO ONE'S DUTY WITHOUT CONSIDERING ONE'S SELFISH DESIRES OR LIKE AND DISLIKES. WHATEVER MAY BE THE RESULT OF ONE'S ACTION IRRESPECTIVE OF THAT, ONE SHOULD KEEP DOING ONE'S SINCERELY.



                   KARMA IS OF THREE TYPES :



                 1. SANCHIT - THERE ARE THE ACCUMULATED KARMAS OF THE PAST ACTIONS.


                2.  PRARABDHA - THEY ARE THE PART OF SANCHIT KARMA. THESE ACTIONS WERE DONE IN THE PAST AND NOW THEY HAVE STARTED GIVING THEIR FRUITS. THESE ARE FRUCTIFYING KARMAS. THEY ARE EXHAUSTED  ONLY BY EXPERIENCING THEM.


                3. AGAMI/KRIYAMANA/ VARTAMANA - THESE ARE CURRENT ACTIONS WHICH WILL GIVE RESULTS IN FUTURE.







                     ONE'S SANCHIT AND PRARBDHA KARMA DECIDES WHAT ONE DESERVES AND ONE'S AGAMI KARMA DECIDE WHAT ONE WILL BE. WHATEVER ONE IS TODAY IS THE RESULT OF THE PAST KARMA. AND ONE'S FUTURE WILL DEPEND UPON KARMAS ONE DOES TODAY. ONE'S ACTIONS AND THOUGHTS DECIDE ONE'S DESTINY.



                        JNANA YOGA 


                     JNANA YOGA MEANS LIBERATION THROUGH KNOWLEDGE. JNANA IN SANSRIT MEANS KNOWLEDGE.  KNOWLEDGE IS TRUTH. AND TRUTH IS THAT GOD IS EVERYWHERE AND IN EVERYTHING . HE IS IN ALL BEINGS ARE IN HIM. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SELF AND GOD.






                    ACCORDING TO SWAM SIVANANDA . "SELF-REALIZATION OR DIRECT INTUITIVE PERCEPTION OF THE SUPREME SELF IS NECESSARY FOR ATTAINING FREEDOM AND PERFECTION. THIS JNANA YOGA OR THE PATH OF WISDOM IS, HOWEVER, NOT MEAN FOR THE MASSESS WHOSE HEARTS ARE NOT PURE ENOUGH AND WHOSE INTELLECTS ARE NOT SHARP ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND AND PRACTISE THIS RAZOR-EDGE PATH. HENCE, KARMA YOGA AND BHAKTI YOGA ARE TO BE PRACTISED FIRST, WHICH WILL RENDER THE HEART PURE AND MAKE IT FIT FOR THE RECEPTION OF KNOWLEDGE JNANA YOGI IS THE PATH OF SELF-ANALYSIS, REFLECTION AND ENQUIRY".

                       (THE INDIVIDUAL IS PURIFIED BY HEATING IN THE FIRE OF KNOWLEDGE KINDLED BY HEARING REASONING AND DEEP MEDITATION ON WHAT HAS BEEN HEARD AND REASONED OUT. THEN THE INDIVIDUAL SHINES OF ITSELF LIKE PURE GOLD WHICH IS OBTAINED AFTER PURIFYIN THE GOLD ORE BY MELTING. ONE HEATS GOLD ORE IN A CRUCIBLE TO PURIFY IT, SIMILARLY, ONE HAS TO USE THE FIRE OF KNOWLEDGE TO PURIFY THE MIND. KNOWLEDGE CAN BE ACHIEVED BY SRAVANA (HEARING) MANANA (REASONING OF TRUTH) AND NIDHI DHYASAMA (DEEP CONTEMPLATON) THE MIND WILL BE FREE FROM IMPURE THOUGHTS, AND THE FEELING OF INDIVIDUAL GETS AUTOMATICALLY DESTROYED. THEN ONLY THE SELF ILLUMINATING SOUL EXISTS).

                      WHEN MIND IS AGITATED BECAUSE OF ANGER OR FEAR THEN BREATHING BECOMES SHORTER, SHALLOWER, FAST AND IRREGULAR. WHEN MIND IS RELAXED AND CALM THEN ONE BREATHES SLOWLY. MIND AND BREATHING ARE INTERRELATED. IF ONE IS CONTROLLED THEN IT WILL CONTROL THE OTHER AUTOMATICALLY.


                    EVERYBODY HAS CONCENTRATION POWER BUT ITS RANGE MAY VARY. ONE SHOULD STRENGTHEN MIND'S CAPACITY BY VARIOUS WAYS. A NEWCOMER IN THE FIELD OF MEDITATION MUST PRACTISE CONCENTRATION EXERCISES TO FOCUS THE SCATTERED RAYS OF MIND ON A SINGLE POINT WHICH LEADS TO SELF REALISATION. THERE ARE VARIOUS EXERCISES USING DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES LIKE POWER OF SOUND. VISUAL IMAE OF DEITY OR SYMBOL. BUT THEY ALL HAVE ONE AIM, TO CONCENTRATE THE MIND.

                       TRATAK - IT IS STEADY GAZING ON AN OBJECT OR A POINT WITHOUT BLINKING TILL TEARS START FLOWING FROM EYES AND THEN CLOSING EYES AND TRYING TO VISUALISE THE OBJECT IN THE MIND. IN THIS EXERCISE THE OBJECT CAN BE THE TIP OF LEAF. TIP OF NOSE, THUMB PLACED IN FRONT OF EYES. LEAF IS VERY GOOD OPTION AS SEEING GREEN COLOUR IS GOOD FOR EYES. THE OBJECT SHOULD BE PLACED AT THE SAME LEVEL WITH THE EYES. IT DECREASES THE WANDERING OF MIND, INCREASES CONCENTRATION, MAKES EYES STRONGER AND STIMULATES THE AJNA CHAKRA, THE SIXTH CHAKRA OF KUNDALINI YOGA LOCATED IN BETWEEN THE EYES.

               CATEGORY CONCENTRATION - THIS EXERCISES IS VERY EASY TO PRACTISE. HAVE A LOOK AT THE ROOM. MEMORIZE FIVE THINGS IN A ROOM LIKE FAN, TUBE LIGHT, CHAIR, TABLE AND CUPBOARD. TRY TO VISUALISE THESE FIVE OBJECTS IN YOUR MIND WITH CLOSED EYES. OPEN THE EYES AND DELTE ONE ITEM, SAY CUPBOARD, NOW MEMORISE FOUR REMAINING OBJECTS. TRY TO VISUALISE THEM. REPEAT THE PROCESS DELETING EACH ITEM TILL ONLY ONE ITEM IS LEFT. FOCUS MIND ON THAT OBJECT. YOU CAN DO THIS EXERCISE IN A GARDEN ON FIVE DIFFERENT FLOWERS, FRUITS AND LEAVES. WITH THIS EXERCISES MIND BECOMES STILL BUT HAS A LITTLE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT. IT HELPS IN INCREASING CONCENTRATION POWER OF MIND BY NARROWING THE POINT OF FOCUS.

                      CONCENTRATION ON SOUND - SIT COMFORTABLY IN SUKHASANA. CLOSE BOTH THE EARS WITH THE THUMBS AND EYES WITH FINGERS. TRY TO HEAR THE INNER SOUNDS. FLUTE, VIOLIN, HUMMING BEE, CONCH SOUND, THUNDER SOUND, BELL SOUND ETC. CAN BE HEARD. YOU MAY HEAR ONE SOUND OR MANY. TRY TO CONCENTRATE ON THE SOUND COMING FROM RIGHT EAR AND SOMETIMES ON THE SOUND COMING FROM LEFT EAR. ONE-POINTEDNESS OF MIND IS ACHIEVED BY FOCUSING MIND ON MYSTIC SOUNDS.

           MIND IS A MONKEY WHICH IS DRUNK SO WILL DO ALL NASTY THINGS.


                    AND MIND IS A MONKEY WHOSE TAIL IS ON FIRE WHICH WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING.

                  JUST LIKE A MONKEY WHO JUMPS FROM ONE BRANCH TO ANOTHER. MIND CAN'T SIT QUIET. MONKEY MIND WANDERS FROM ONE POINT TO ANOTHER. SUCH THINKING IS CONSIDERED AS "SATVIK" THINKING. SIMILAR TO A MONKEY WHO IS DRUNK, MIND DOES UNPLEASANT AND HORRIBLE ACTIVITIES. SUCH THINKING COMES UNDER "RAJASIK" THINKING. LIKE A MONKEY WHOSE TAIL IS SET ON FIRE AND IS EAGER TO DESTROY ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. THE OUTCOME OF SUCH SITUATION IS UNPREDICTABLE AND TOTALLY DIFFERENT. SUCH THINKING WITH A DESTRUCTIVE MOTTO IS "TAMASIC" THINKING. THE MIND, WHICH BEHAVES LIKE A MONKEY NEEDS TO BE TRAINED AND DIRECTED IN A POSITIVE DIRECTION. THIS CAN BE DONE BY DISCIPLINING IT WITH PATIENCE AND PRACTICE. THEN ONLY THIS MIND MONKEY WILL BECOME TAME AND CALM.



                             MIND IS RESTLESS, UNSETTLED, CONFUSED, INDECISIVE AND UNCONTROLLABLE. MIND JUMPS FROM ONE THOUGHT TO ANOTHER JUST LIKE A MONKEY WHO JUMPS FROM ONE TREE TO ANOTHER. THE MONKEY MIND IS NOT SATISFIED IN THE PRESENT MOMENT. IT IS CONTANTLY DISTRACTED WITH REPLAYING THE HAPPENINGS OF PAST EVENTS OR PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE. FOCUSING OF MIND TO STAY IN PRESENT CAN BE ACHIEVED BY PRACTISING MEDITATION.

                     MEDITATION IS THE PRACTISE BY WHICH THERE IS CONSTANT OBSERVATION OF THOUGHTS ENTERING THE MIND. EVERY DAY NEAR ABOUT 50,000 THOUGHTS ARISE IN MIND. IF THEY ARE NEGATIVE THEN A PERSON WILL DEFINITELY FEEL SAD AND IF IT CONTINUE FOR SOME DAYS IT WILL LEAD TO DIPRESSION.


                    EVERY BODY HAS ITS OWN WORLD OF THOUGHTS. THERE ARE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE THOUGHTS. THROUGH THE PRACTICE OF JAPA OF MANTRA. PRANAYAMA AND YOGA ALONG WITH READING SACRED BOOKS ONE CAN FILL MIND WITH PURE AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS AND ERADICATE IMPURE THOUGHTS FROM MIND.

                          MEDITATION IS A TECHNIQUE TO HAVE FULL CONTROL OVER MIND. IT TRAINS MIND TO WORK WITHOUT GETTING TENSED, STRESSED, TIRED AND AGED. IT KEEPS THE MIND CHEERFUL, PEACEFUL, CALM, SERENE AND YOUNG AS THERE IS INCREASE OF GREY MATTER. MOST IMPORTANTLY IT HELPS ONE TO BE PEACEFUL IN TURBULENT TIMES.


                          AN EAGLE SOARS HIGH IN THE SKY BUT STILL HAS A KEEN VISION FOR ITS PREY. AS THE EAGLE CAME DOWN TO ATTACK ITS PREY, THE MUSCLES OF ITS EYE BALLS CONTINUOUSLY ADJUST TO MAINTAIN SHARP FOCUS AND ACCURATE PERCEPTION THROUGHOUT ITS APPROACH. SIMILARLY A CONCENTRATE MIND IS FOCUSED ON A PARTICULAR OBJECT AND IMPORTANCE SHOULD BE GIVEN ONLY TO THOSE THINGS THAT ARE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE. MIND PURELY FOCUSES ON FULLFILLMENT OF PURPOSE OF PRIORITY.
